I think popular kids grow up thinking everything will just be handed to them and they expect more out of society instead of relying on themselves to do something with their life. So I would say it is not good for ambition.

That probably depends on the individual. Some people may find popularity at some level of achievement, decide it's comfortable right there, and lose interest in advancement. Others may see the popularity as encouragement and try that much harder to rise to the next level. If we're talking about this being a business setting, what people do have to be prepared for is that, once you advance to a certain level, once you become the "boss," you can no longer afford popularity. The very nature of the job requires that a person be at least a partial SOB.

Being popular makes you think you have to work less hard and that everything should be handed to you.
