Re: Habitant and comments on Oilers.
While not number one, or even top five, they did alright.
First, the Oilers had NO interest in Mike Peca after proving he was as bad as was in the last few years. The last time he was worth over 1.5 million was with Buffalo. So the Oilers are glad he is gone. Average to below-average season, and a few awesome games against San Jose. He will not be missed.
However Pronger will be, but since his literal screw up, there is no way he could play here distraction free.
The Oilers have more scoring depth than last year, in effect losing Samsonov and Rem Murray but getting Sykora and Lupul (both can score 30).
Signed Roloson to long term deal. He was a free agent, so that counts.
The problem is D. Tjarnqvist is average, so Pronger is going to be missed. But Greene is growing, and Smid seems to be a solid future star.
But the reason I think the Oil are great, is because they got all those draft picks from Anaheim, so Lowe can do the same sorta deals he did last year when the prices get lower. He showed he is one of the best, and the picks give him the tools to work with IF he needs to do anything.

I say the Vancouver Canucks. Addition by subtraction, the trading of Bertuzzi will remove the cloud that hovered over the team last year. Acquiring a franchise goalie in return, Roberto Luongo, will shore up the back-end and allow the nucks to play more of a defensive style. Willie Mitchell is a stay at home shut down defenceman, Jan bulis should replace Anson Carter with the Sedins. Trading for Pyatt and signing Chouinard give the nucks much needed size on their bottom two lines. Finally, firing Crawford and his assistants and hiring Alain Vigneault will give the team a fresh set of ideas, more energy, and different voices for the players to hear.

Listen I wont say that I'm biased about this I'm an Islander fan but I'm an NHL fan more than that. I don't deny the changes the Rangers have made but please lets be real they will not win the Cup and that to me answers who is best by stating the obvious. The canes won they had a mediocre team and turned it around. There are soo many other teams to watch so please lets spread the wealth and think outside of the box.

I have to say with just one signing the Ducks improved their team the most. Pronger was the only reason the Ducks didn't make it to the cup finals last season. He totally shut down their top line. Now this year with Pronger playing FOR the Ducks with Scott Neidermeyer, hell they don't have to have much offense. Although if Selanne has even close to the year he had last season, their offense will be awesome. All those rookies have a year under their belts and playoff experience. SISU SORSA!!!

Sharks fan here and ummm.....i'd say NOTHING! ok ok, we have some flaws. The most noticeable one is our depth on defense. I'm quite pleased with the 6 we have on the ice, but afterwards, its Alexei Semenov. Are you kidding me? Wilson needs to find depth there as all it takes is an injury to one of our 6 and we WILL have a gaping hole that will be exploited. I also see our focus being a problem. The sharks get lazy and lose focus after a lead and that spells problems. Yes, the very same problems that led to us getting ousted in the playoffs the previous years!

well as much as i want to say minnesota....i cant because they did get a lot of new players that will help a lot....but they got rid of the best prospect in the nhl....last year got rid of roloson and mitchell......big mistake...and now they got rid or zyuzin and kuba....so to answer yer question im gonna say vancouver...... they did get rid of bertuzzi ..which is a good thing and a bad thing.....good because he attracts a lot of negative attention...and bad because he is a decent player.....they added a couple skilled defenseman...they dont need any help on offense... they got rid of the worst coach in the nhl A.K.A. marc crawford....and most importantly they got a goalie that can play...roberto luongo was consistently one of the best goalies in the nhl ..and he was on a terrible team...nows hes gonna be on the canucks.....kinda scary.....and as much as i hate the canucks cas i am from minnesota........i honestly think they are the most improved team and they are gonna have a very good chance at winning the cup this year

While ClarkeSnider were trying to build Broad Street Bullies version 32, the Rangers made a lot of good moves. However, I think the Canucks are going to surprise everyone and win the Cup.

ny rangers-- not that i'm an arrogant fan, but because this past year they got to 100 points. The 8 years prior to last year they didn't even make the playoffs, which is dreadfully pathetic. They had an extremely surprising year this year, and hopefully, and probably, it will be a better one in 2006-2007.

Easily the Boston Bruins. Re-signing Bergeron the proven young gun for them, the pick up a star from the usa national team, and Grabbing Zdeno Chara to man the blueline will intimidate all teams. I think this makes up for he oss of Sampsonov and Thornton last last year.

well over last season
the san jose sharks i mean scamming the bruins out of thorton improved them and put the bruins out of the playoffs for how many more years.
over the offseason
its a tie between the calgary flames and toronto maple leafs
calgary got the scorer they needed in Alex Taunguy and got the centermen they needed in jeff friesen and repleaced jordan leopold with alexi zuziyn its going to be a good year in cowtown
toronto after all these years got a promising young tender with andrew raycroft now they HAVE to keep him this season. and with mike peca this team could most likely go far
