Well, it's academic if anyone else thinks you're doing the right thing or not, since you've alrady purchased it.

I ride ('00 Honda VFR800), here's my two cents. 12 years is a bit of a stretch, and while the CBR600 isn't the fastest bike you could have bought (compared, for instance, to a litre bike, like a GSXR1000, Hayabusa or R1), it can surely get you into a bad knot pretty quickly.

I suggest you look into the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course in your local area. The link's below. I took it when I first started riding and it was priceless. A good friend of mine was also in the same situation as you - had ridden since teenager, but had been off for over 10 years. He took the course (at first, thought there wasn't anything he needed to know), and came away telling me, "They taught me things about riding I'd never known! I don't know how ANYONE rides safely without taking that course."

The streets are a pretty dangerous place nowadays, at least where I live (Northern California)...not because of our skills as riders, but because of the way people drive automobiles nowadays.

Take the course! You won't regret it.

And congrats on the new ride. Keep the rubber side down!

How comfortable and skilled were you at riding 12 yrs ago? Did you only take the test back then and not ever really ride? If so you may want to take a refresher course...and start small (parking lots, low traffic areas, riding with someone more experienced with you to coach and watch out for you...

Be smart...be safe...have fun...I've only been riding a month myself, but went on a weekend ride of over 600 miles my second time out (other than the putting around parking lots and neighborhoods)...rode 329 miles this past Sunday with a small group (6 bikes total) and it's all been good so far...sometimes a bit scary, but no mishaps or issues...

Congrats on your new purchase...enjoy!

Yes you are. I did a similar thing but with a GSX1100F and didn't regret it one bit.

Just keep your bottle, concentrate real hard for the first couple of thousand miles, and you'll be fine. I used to do a Sunday Ride every week, rain or shine that went for about 40 miles on country A roads and the last 10 on a fast straight dual-cabbageway.

I then went to a Busa and survived that for 18 months and now have an old GPZ 500 for fun.

I hope like mine, it turns out to be one of the best purchases you have ever made!

happy riding.

I stopped riding when my daughter was born 21 years ago. In May this year I bought a xjr 1300 and am now going to trade that in for a Blackbird. Just go steady and at your own speed, bikes have changed so much over the years, as has the volume of other road traffic.Best of luck !!.

I started out on a sports 600, admittedly not 12 years after passing my test tho'!. The most important thing for you would be to treat it with respect, start slowly and carefully and let your confidence build up slowly. If you've not ridden at all in 12 years a day's tuition wouldn't do any harm, your guaranteed to feel 100% better afterwards. Good luck!..........

Follow these simple rules.

Safety: Ride solo, ride slow and careful for the next month, learn the brakes, learn to lean again in the turns. Don't down shift in the rain.

Wear a full face helmet, wear Kevlar gloves that are vented, wear a Vanson Leather perforated Jacket with Kevlar inserts, wear boots with good ankle support.

Best advice i can give is go do a refresher course before you get on that bike so while you're getting the feel of biking back you can trash someone Else's and not loose your money have fun with your new toy

I agree with Timothy here. It's not the easiest bike to ride, but it's not the hardest either, and you already have it. So I would say the best thing to do now is to take a refresher course in how to ride, like the MSF class.

i fairly doubt its melancholy, there became a level in my existence were I wore black and became quite. youngsters are diverse at domicile then they're out with pals or college. colleges a discomfort, btw. Its stressfull. yet no matter if that is a melancholy, it really is what i visit assert: i'm a baby with mum and dad of my own, so i visit inform you what it feels to be depressed. its no longer the superb feeling, genuinely it fairly sucks. even with the undeniable fact that the aspect that i think is the superb, you ought to search for suggestion from which includes her. If its no longer the divorce shes disillusioned about its both college, or shes having problems with herself. college is stressfull, believe it or no longer, it sort of feels to get further and extra terrible through the minute, and regularly little ones basically conflict through emotional confusion. it may very last a month even 2 years. you basically want to furnish her time, search for suggestion from which includes her, yet dont rush issues. Dont ask too many questions. basically enable her comprehend she will be able to believe you, and also you wont punish her for the flaws she comes to a call to inform you. Telling your mum and dad own issues is really perplexing because mum and dad have a tendency to react in a more desirable panic way. They panic and then they punish, in case you may prepare her that she will be able to inform you issues and also you want to talk no longer punish. she might want to be prepared to furnish you a friendship and by no skill basically motherhood.
