NO. u should never bathe a hamster except in an emergency situation such as if they got into oil or something dangerous. they can catch cold easily & die. they do a pretty good job of cleaning themselves. they do sometimes groom a lot & it's normal.
girls are a little smellier than boys some days but it's just natural.
they do not love to swim, like water, nor should they be put in a tub of water. just because they lived thru it doesnt mean they wont ever die from it. people smoke and dont get cancer with the first toke. one person had a hamster survive an 18 ft fall---pure luck. these people have obviously done no research & just want the points for a guess.
DO NOT LISTEN to lion or any of the others who say it is ok. if u do u r putting your hammie's life in danger.
they dont have fleas unless u have fleas in your house or on your cat/dog. mites sometimes, but no fleas.

In general I'd say no, like you said, he grooms himself.. but I did always wash my hammy's if they got exceptionally dirty, I also noticed a couple of times they they had flea's and I washed them then with a little bit of fairy liquid or shampoo and a drop of lavender oil (apparently flea's hate lavender), and it helped. I did always dry them thoroughly afterwards to make sure they didn't catch a cold or something. They will usually start grooming themselves immediately once you have washed them, so make sure you have washed out all soap.

hamsters are one of those independent ones. they don't need you to bathe them. The do that themselves...usually the only animals you REALLY need to bathe are dogs and maybe cats.

I used to wipe mine off with a wet wash cloth or a baby wipe... I would sometimes put them in the tub with just a little bit of water around the drain and let them play.. they couldnt climb out, and they would flop in the water...

You can bathe them if you want to, they usually take care of themselves but yes it is ok to wash them.
My hampster got pregnant and I ended up with 10 all together, and would occationally wash them. All you do is fill a little bucket with just a little bit of warm water. You don't need to really wash them, just rinse them off in some water, just make sure not to put too much water so they don't drown.

No !!! Please don't do that, they groom themselves, thats why you see him doing that at night, they are nocturnal(nite) creatures that is when they are most active. And they do catch colds and can die. Always keep warm.
