A precious stone must have three characteristics, Beauty, Durability and Rarity to qualify. Having said that rarity can be a problem, there are many stones which are too rare to have wide appeal because there are just not enough to satisfy the world market demand and become, as you put it "real" precious stones but have prices that outstrip many of the traditional group. Examples of these are Alexandrite, Demantoid Garnet, Uvarovite Garnet, Taaffite etc.

Oh, right here is my popular.. i like the organic elegance present in stones...incredibly semi-helpful. I actually have a fave ring that I placed on...quite great... A masculine silver southwestern American Indian layout embedded with an quite exciting turquoise stone and a few pink coral. It covers my finger from knuckle to knuckle. for the period of a visit to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, I rented a vehicle (a beat up dune buggy)...and drove 3 hours on torn up Mexican roads for the period of an electric powered typhoon with the aid of (fortunately...hehehe) the city of Tequila (the place it comes from) to an quite small village called Magdalena...the place I negotiated a number of black opal purchases from chosen retailers around the city plaza. I introduced them abode and had them custom fixed for a hoop, cuff hyperlinks and a tie pin. they're spectacular. See hyperlink under for a photograph of black opals. those i offered look greater like the only with pink it in. they look spectacular against a crisp white french-cuff shirt with my black suede jacket...
