I have an old gateway computer and the power supply died and I cannot access my info on my old desktop. I have a dell notebook and have removed the h/d from the desktop and was wondering if there was a way to access the desktop h/d via the dell.

Yes, you can buy a cheap kit to connect the HD via USB. Link will follow.

You do not need an external case, just the adapter at the link below.

Yes, you can but you will need to purchase a USB adapter to put the 3.5" hard drive in. They run anywhere from $25 to $150 - I found the best prices at evertek (www.evertek.com).

Once you have the harddrive in a USB case, you can then use your windows Explorer to view, move files from one hard drive to the other.
