What is the best way to call it a day? How do you know you've had all the therapy you needed, and how can you know that the counsellor isn't just using you for an easy pay cheque? Would a good counsellor tell you, or just let you find your own space to decide that enough was enough?

My main problem in all this is that where ive broached the question before, i never get a direct yes no answer, its always a case of..'lets explore why you feel the need to ask that' See, there are some people who take a view that, you can never ever have enough counselling, in that there is always something somewhere that you can explore and dissect. I am leaning towards closing it all down, Im just not sure how. Hmmn maybe it is as simple as, thanks, I think Ive had enough for now...Thanks all, I'll leave this open for a few more responses nonetheless :)

Normally, your gut feelings ywould tell you.One way of finding out.. if you are able to deal with the issue(s) at hand without the help of the counsellor, or finding it difficult, you try to deal with it. If you are able, then just say thank you to the counsellor.

Honest counsellors will tell you after you ask them. it is up to you, but at the same time, discuss with your counsellor.

(I'm not a counsellor myself, just giving you my opinion, as I've had several discussions of this nature with counsellor friends)

Skip out on the session, go to the park and eat ice cream. If nothing happens to make you feel worse, give up the shrink.

I think you would know when you have had enough. I think your intuition would tell you if the counselor was just doing it for the $$. What does tour gut tell you?

Well ideally you and your therapist should have created some goals?? If so have you reached them? As a former therapist I appreciated it when people were just honest instead of dropping out.
