The cover for Physical Graffiti was shot on Astor Place. He'll probably want to go down there anyway.

The back cover for Strange Days was shot at a little place called "Sniffen Court" on 36th Street between 3rd & Lex.

The cover for Paul's Boutique was shot at the intersection of Rivington & Ludlow.

Electric Ladyland, Jimi Hendrix's studio, is on 8th Street near 6th Ave., although the "buried guitar" facade was destroyed.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head...

CBGB's would be a good one.
I'm sure you could put flowers at the Dakota Hotel where John Lennon was shot.
