i send messages to my friend who is on hotmail but always came back to me i wondering why

Might not be the right addy, his inbox might be over quota, your email was not sent properly, or your email went to his spam box.

You might be right also, check the email that came back, there should be a reason why it was sent back, but like you said, his account might be inactive.
