If you really want to do it right, FDISK, kill the partitions and data, and start fresh with an XP install.

first off, your PC has to be able to handle XP. Don't go by the basic "system requirements" on the XP box - that's just to boot, not to actually *use* it. Second, you need to purchase a license of XP. You can get it OEM from some online retailers, keeps costs down, and is legal to my knowledge. Also, you should make sure you have all of the drivers for your hardware in XP versions ready and available.
It's not as easy as just chucking a CD in and being done.. you're replacing an entire operating system. Prior planning will make the update a *lot* smoother.

Simply purchase Windows XP upgrade (home or professional edition), put the Windows XP CD in your computer, and follow the instruction. I would back up important documents BEFORE doing the upgrade.

istalling window xp is very easy..
you just plug in the xp cd and follow the instructions.
but since your running 98se, i'm pretty sure your computer is very old.
make sure you look at the system before installing
you want at least 300MHz of cpu power
and 128MB of ram
And should have at least 2G of harddrive space.
if itz lower than those specs....
I wouldn't consider XP at all.
good luck!
