I have a 98 Malibu, with a sealed trans. No dipstick. How do I check the trans fluid without having to take it to a garage?

you have to have the car on a perfectly level ground or lift. On the drivers side of the tranny about half way down (below the red filler cap) there is a 15 mm plug. You take the plug out and if fluid is present then it is good if not you add it through the filler cap. The red cap just unscrews. But do not put too much in at a time it doesn't take much to fill normally. It is kind of hard to get to the check plug so I would suggest taking it in to a garage and let them do it. They shouldn't charge too much and they can make sure car is level by using a lift.

There is a way to check the fluid, but it requires the car to be on a hoist to access a plug on the case, and, the vehicle will have to be running. Best thing is to take it to a shop !!! I wouldn't recommend doing it in your driveway. The aggrivation isn't worth the 20 bucks !!!

I have seen these transmissions, but I do not know how you are supposed to check the fluid level. Does it say anything in your owner's manual? Otherwise, you can call a chevy dealership ad talk to someone in the service department.

Good luck.
