Definitely Alex Cross. And I think all of James Patterson's villains are so scary. Because there could really be people out there like them!

The best protagonist would have to be Agatha Christie's Poirot. There are so many good villains out there...I think I would have to choose Dr. Shepard from The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Konrad Beezo from Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz, and Dracula from Dracula.

The best protagonist is Hamlet or Peter Pan. I love Hamlet's pompous and dramatic attitude and Peter is a very unique and complicated character. Both are great. Also, Gregor Samsa is a great protagonist. After all he is a bug. Very interesting.

Michael Valentine, Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein.
I don't think I have a best villian, though I'm rather fond of Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series...

Among the classics, I think Othello stands out. Like all of Shakespeare's tragic heroes, he kept his grace and dignity till the very end.
On the other hand, I believe you cant have a more ruthless villain than Roderigo. His motiveless malignity against Othello and Desdemona is simply unfathomnable
