Only arrogant morons do... I have 2 sons, both different names (Bailey and Aidan). I'd never think of naming them "jr." that takes away from their potential and forces them to live in a shadow no matter if they like it or not. I think it's the most self-centered idea a father could think of... it really makes one question if the word "father" would even fit that type of person, assuming they want "what's best" for their son, that obviously is not something that would help at all in that area.

My son is a Jr and I actually brought up the subject, not my husband. My husband's brother has a II instead of a Jr. I like my husband's name, so we went with it.

Probably the same ego-gene that is responsible for most guys wanting their sons to play football. I made it point to NOT name my son after me--we got same middle name though, it's just away to tie in two generations. My oldest brother did that, but then he was a jr, his son was a III. It's all relative.

I am a junior myself, so I guess its tradition thing maybe. But also my 1st son is named after me, so he is no.3
I knew that my first born son would take my name, not sure why just something to keep name going I guess.

Everyone said it, ego.
I think it's silly, personally. I think my hubby's name is unique, cool, and I love it but he has always disliked it and used his middle name.
Why pass on a name that you don't even like/use? He said he did not want that torture for his son. Especially, being called Junior or little "so-and-so". My friend named both of her kids after their fathers (yes, 2 different ones) They went by baby "so-and-so", and little "so-and-so"....needless to say, they have more than grown out of those names!

My first born son is not a junior. And my husband chose his name. So, i guess its not all dads, just some.

Most likely it is because the father wants the son to be similar to the father. Kind of like following the footsteps.

i have a son who's about to be 1 in 7 days.
i have to tell you and this is speaking for myself only-I NEVER EVER EVER WANTED HIM TO BE A JR. THAT MAKES NO SENSE.
matter of factly i think its pretty pathetic. instead name him something different. but trust me when i tell you the kids gonna grow up feeling robbed. where's his identity?
but i can understand where your husbands coming from. i for one told my wife (who's russian by the way and i'm mexican and we named our son rocco) i told her that she had no say in what i was gonna name my boy-he's my first son-i'm naming him. even when my mom's and sisters tried to give out names..i said nope..you can stop that **** right there cuz i'm not listening you have no say.
i told her our girl will be all hers (but she'll still be daddy's girl first)
but liken it to the same reason why you women want to dress girls up in cute things and all that.
if you can answer that then you answered the jr question.
