My friend and I found a baby bat in a tub in a closet. We assume that our cat brought it in several days ago. We poured a tiny bit of water into the tub, and he seems to have drank it. So far we have tried feeding him:
Cat food (in a burst of speed, ran away from it)
An apple (has ignored it)

Does anyone know of a food supply we could give to him? He's very small, and a dark brown color with even darker wings. We've already named him Frankie, so we're quite emotionally attatched to him already.

We know that bats have rabies. We have not touched him, except for my mother who did not know he was a bat. He is currently too weak to fend for himself, so we'd sort of like to feed him before he dies.

Take the baby (which I am almost positive it is not) to the local zoo. If it can be rehabilitated, they will know how to do it. Never try to keep a wild animal as a pet. Do not touch it in the process, try to scoop it up into a carrier of some kind, and take it as fast as you can. What probably happened is that your kitty brought you a prize for being so nice to him. Thank the kitty, give him a treat, and keep the kitty as your one and only pet, as it is TAME!!!

You're actually considering keeping a baby bat? Do you have ANY idea how many diseases they carry? If that bat so much as scratches you or your cat, you can get rabies!!!! There is NO CURE for RABIES!!!!! Not to mention it is illegal to take in wild animals without the necessary permits. If you care about yourself, your cat, or this bat, call the dnr for a list of animal rehabbers in your area!!!!!

it depends on what kind of bat it is. if you live in the south it's probably a migratory bat from mexico. they eat insects like mosquitos and other flying insects. not sure but you may want to look up on google under pictures and type bats. the best thing would be to call the vet and see where they say to take it. the noise in your house is probably reeking havoc on his/her sensitive hearing. be careful, it could be a carrier of rabies.

ew, bats are scary....

um, it could be a fruit bat, try some nuts, or some pieces of oranges or banana.

if its just like, a regular bat, maybe some bugs, go to a pet store and buy some feeder crickets.

it would probly be best to set him free though, bats need to fly.

My son has a few sugar-gliders which is sort of like a bat. They eat Mango and grapes chopped up in tiny pieces.

the animal may have rabies. you and your friend may have been exposed. Talk to your parents and animal control to see what should be done. He sounds like a common brown bat. they eat insects.

A bat?! Do you know they are carriers of rabies? All of them are. It is in their saliva. You should not be handling them. Release it and get vaccinated.
