long strings are ususally waste products. take a look at your guppy----pay special attention the the "Bottom" of her body---is it flat now as if someone sandpapered her? If so then babies are not too far off. Secondly look at her anus---there should be a "plug" sticking from it. Once that plug falls out, the babies are eminent. she will susually stay by herself and the males will chase her unmercifibly usually. this is how you can tell. Get some anacharis from your dealer to float in the top of your tank to help reduce the chances of being eaten. Many times I have put my female in a bowl once she started giving birth with water from the tank and I caught the babies with a spoon and transferred them into a cup. that is when they stated cuoming and i wasnt ready lol. You do not need a heater if the tank is in a warm place. I have a 125 gallon tank, for three years, loaded and no heater. Good luck with your fish Oh just so you kow, you mommy guppy will produce for six months withoout being mated again--they store sperm and also, by the time your fry are big enought o really se, the females will be expecting---have fun!!!

Mollies tend to have greater advantageous mouths than guppies,

that long string would have been crap......and guppies dont really need one just dont keep the tank in dirrect sun or in line with an ac vent. guppies are fine with room temp. As too when i could not tell but her belly will swell and you will see a very dark spot in it...that means she is getting closer

When my sword tails were ready to give birth, the female developed a cream-ish/white bubble under her fins...in a few days she delivered.

Should be the same with guppies.
