My boyfriend is the only child and his mother is very mean to all his past girlfriends (confirmed by many of his friends). My bofriend is 23 single no kids. I am 28 divorced and have 2 kids. Im convinced there is no way this woman will ever like me because of this. I really care for him and he tells me he cares for me. Any suggestions on how to get her to like me? Ive never been in a situation like this. im a very nice person just don't know how to handle this one. Please help.

There's probably really no way to make her like you, she's going to make her own decisions on that one. I'd just be yourself and see what happens, maybe be extra nice to her but not to the point of being fake. I've learned that mothers are almost always hard on girlfriends at least at first, they don't want anyone taking their place in their sons lives, and I'm sure with him being an only child it's a million times worse. She'll come around once she sees how he really feels about you. I'd just give it some time... Good Luck

It's a protective thing. I think it's because the parent wants their self to be the only one their child loves, and feels threatened when another person comes into their lives.

Well my fiance mother hate me....but it doesn't bother me because there is nothing she can do to stop us from loving each other...so what I am trying to say here is that you be polite and very nice to her and if she doesn't appreciate you.....that's her problem, all that matter is your boyfriend loves and care for you...after all you guys have a relationship of 2 and that does not include mother-in-law...

I had the same prob. My husband's mother hated all of her 4 son's women. I tried and tried but, no matter what I did she didn't want to like me. She finally went to her grave, still causing trouble betwn. her sons and their women. I wish now I had just relaxed and not tried so hard. Just be pleasant and do what you think is right. If that's not good enough, don't sweat it. It's not worth the trouble.

Just be nice to her and do all you can as a person and maybe she will respect you....if that doesn't work then at least you will know that you did everything in your power to try to make her like you and your conscience will be clear.

You can't make someone like you. Just be yourself and when she gets to know you maybe she will start liking you.
