In Canada, the health care system is good, it has its flaws, but everyone, regardless of income, has access to care.
The health care system covers things like routine doctor's visits, emergency care, many surgeries and diagnostic testing to name a few.
Things that are not covered are dental care, eye care and prescriptions.
I don't know about everyone else, but when I want a doctor's appointment I just call the doctor, usually go in within the week and then get my check up and leave.
There is controversy right now because there are long wait times for things like MRI's, CT scans and other diagnostic tests. As well there are wait times for surgeries. People in Canada are calling to have a two-tiered health care system where, if you have the money you can by pass the lines for surgeries and tests and pay to have things done when you need them.
I feel this undermines the entire system and other things need to be put in place before we resort to such an extreme. More emphasis needs to be put on prevention and early detection. Fraud only accounts for a small percentage of the costs so prevention to all diseases is key!

There are limits of what you can get. Our free health care system is very slow though and wait lists are long. In some provinces they have gone to a two tier system where one tier is private (where you have to pay money, but wait times are short) or there is the public health care. Medications are mostly covered by peoples work, but you still have to pay for them. But the provinces and the national governments pay for your visits to the doctor, and surgery. THings like casts are not always covered. We spend a hell of alot of tax dollars on our healthcare, but it is worth every penny.
