Would it be ok to watch with younger kids? Why exactly is it rated PG13?

My 9 & 10 year old daughters love it - no reason for it to be rated PG-13 - nothing inappropriate at all as far as I am concerned.

Hmm, this was actually on TV last night, and I watched it. I can't remember exactly what it was. There may have been a little swearing. But it's not just a soccer movie. There are complex issues. The British girl with the Indian heritage goes through some identity issues of respecting her family and culture, and playing soccer. Also, two of the girls are best friends, and by accident, one of their mothers mistakes the two girls as girlfriends and lesbians, which they are not.

Also, if the kids are real young, they may not enjoy it. There are lots of other issues other than soccer, and it's not ALL about soccer. They may be bored with the dialogue, etc.

On the website, it says Bend It Like Beckham is PG-13 due to langauge and some sexual situations. But as far as a remember, there was no real graphic sexual stuff. All clothes on, etc.

Maybe just watch it first?

I think because they make a small reference to homosexuality. At some point of the film the parents of one of the girls think she is homosexual and becomes a funny confusion but the reference is not direct or offensive, nothing worse than what they usually show on prime time TV.

I am trying to think of any questionable scenes in the movie... I can think of none that would be offensive to younger audiences. I think you would have to be 13 to really get the messages that they are trying to push on you, but the movie can still be fun for younger ages.

I don't really see anything wrong with it. It's one of my favorite movies.
Maybe it has some offensive language for British people. Isn't "bloody" like a curse word over there?
