I think he gets plenty of recognition, however his image as a sex symbol does get in the way. He makes an excellent character actor, which from my experience means he performs well in the most difficult roles. Most of his fans see that, they just would rather drool.

I think he has plenty of recognition. To his credit, he has taken unusual and gutsy roles over the years. Unlike, say Tom Hanks who mainly stars in bland big budget junk that is viewed by more people. I think Depp is the real deal. He lives in a political fantasy world, but thats probably what makes him great. Artistic people are usually out there, and I don't mean that as a negative.

When Johnny Depp stars in a movie devoid of mindless drivel then he may get the recognition you say he deserves. He hasn't tackled any challenging roles. Probably the role most deserving of an award was Edward Scissorhands.

Well he did recieve an Oscar nomination for Pirates and Finding Neverland, which I personally think he should have won but perhaps I'm a little biased. haha.
He definitely is an awesome actor. He's pulled off some amazing roles and created some very memorable characters. I'm sure he will one day soon win the Oscar he deserves.

He is getting his recognition right here, right now...Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor...and he pulls off all those "weird" roles, not many actors can do that!!

Beyond doubt, He pulled off some very unusual characters. there is more depth to his acting than I've seen in any actor/actress in a very long time. It also doesn't hurt that he is so hooooooot
