We will be spending a day in Denver on our vacation in Colorado, and I am wondering what are the do not miss things. We will already have visited the mountains, so please give me some other suggestions. We will be there October 8th.

Thanks!

The capitol building.
The Denver Mint.
Larimer Square.
Take the free bus down the 16th street mall - lots to see and do along the way.
Lookout Mountain - just west of Denver on US 285. Go at night to see the lights of the city or go during the day just for the view. Buffalo Bill's grave is at the top.
Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs.
Have dinner at Casa Bonita on Colfax. Terrible food, but famous for the inside of the restaurant (including cliff divers and a wild west show).
Hope you have a great trip!

Depends on what your interests are. There is an excellent zoo and nearby Museum of Nature and Science with an excellent dinosaur fossil exhibit. Denver has a great art museum with a number of pieces on Western art (U.S. west, that is). The State Capitol Building is nice and has an excellent view of the Front Range from its dome.

There's a nice shopping area called Cherry Creek North, across from one of the best malls in the country, Cherry Creek Mall. The REI flagship building is very cool, with quite a rock climbing wall. The 16th Street Mall is downtown Denver's core, with a free shuttle bus that stops on every corner. Lower Downtown (LoDo) is where all the cool bars, restaurants and nightclubs are. The Wynkoop Brewery is one of many brewpubs, but this one was founded and is still owned by Denver's mayor, John Hickenlooper!
