Kind of over done, gives the wrong impression, like the famine films you get about africa. Makes people believe that's all that goes on in that part of the world.

Its been awhile since i saw that movie, but i remember thinking how totally strange it was for her husband to change sooooo much after returning to his homeland....I mean i think they must have really exaggerated that part, he was a successful doctor, happily married well settled in US and then he just changes????? I mean they really made him look like the devil. I don't think educated people who have assimilated into western culture would change like that in reality. That really made no sense at all, and I know this movie was based on a true story but obviously to make it more interesting they have to add drama. Basically the movie's take home message was western women should never marry a middle eastern man.

That was a very powerful movie. I remember being so afraid for Mrs. Mamoody with the situation that she was in...a hostage in your husband's country...completely betrayed by the one you trust the most....facing the reality that you may have to leave your only child...wow. To be honest, I really cant think of any Sally Field movie that I didnt like!

I was thinking to myself you should never have a child with anyone who's from a country where women are treated like dirt and what the man says goes.
