I'm a high school career counselor and I've helped many students get babysitting jobs. However, 12 hours is considerably longer then the usual 3-4 hours most babysitter work. This is a full time job so I would start at $12 and negotiate from there. The reason for $12 is the age of the child and the anticipated tasks required during the 12 hours.
I hope this helps ...

depends on your situation and the situation of those you are babysitting for. .

Is this your only income? (like do you have a spouse making money and paying the bills besides what you get from your babysitting?)

How much can the people afford? Do they have money or are they going to not be able to make it if they pay you a great wage, etc. .

Another question is, is the 12 year old coming to your house?. . or are you going to their house?

How much work is it going to be to watch them?. . are they self -contained? (meaning, do you have to watch them every second and do their homework for them as well? . . or do you just need to make sure they have direction and don't set the house on fire?)

do you get all you want to eat, etc at their house? (this is pretty much standard). .

these are questions that you need to answer. .

I'd say that, if this is your only job, and you have no spouse bringing in money as well, you have to have enough that you're going to get by as well. You have to make your ends meet. .

hope this helps.

I think I'd say $ 5 - $7 an hour would not be asking too much or too little (esp if you don't have to do much, just make sure the child isn't doing something they shouldn't. . and is doing something they should). . etc. .

Well, the prices of babysitting has gone up, but how much do you really need to babysit a twelve year old? He/she should be fairly independent. I guess it depends if you are providing meals. At most, maybe $50, which would be $250.00/wk and that is a lot for some people to pay. I use to babysit for $3/hr, but that was a long time ago.

Usually I make $5 an hour for one kid, $7 for two, and $10 for 3, so however many hours (12) $60 would be what I'd charge.

I would say $40 per day. It's a long day and $5 an hour is just going to cut it like it used to...

Unfortunately 12 yrs old is still too young to leave alone, especially for such a long time...I pay $30 a day for daycare for a 2yr old and I believe it is about the same for the older children...

For my daycare I charge $25 a day for 8 hours or less, $5 for each hour after 8, so you'd be about $45 a day for a daily rate (cheaper than an hourly by far!)

It depends on where you live and what other jobs are paying. Also, a 12 year old is not a baby, so you're not doing that much. Another factor is if this is a one time job or an ongoing job. As a mother, I would pay a lot more if this was a one time job (like a wedding) as opposed to an ongoing arrangement.

Good heavens, 12 hours, that's a lot of time. I suggest you check around and see what the going rate is in your area, they vary. Where are the parents 12 hours a day?

$70
P.S. These people who are saying $10-15 are very unrealistic, unless the parents are wealthy. I figured $6/hour 6*12=60 plus $10 as a "courtesy" fee hehehe. Good luck.
