I agree. I am a manly man (haha) and happen to enjoy cooking.

Hunny, that has been totally a women's thing. The men usually worked, and the women cooked, cleaned, and took care of the children. Nowadays, men can be chefs, professional cleaners, and do daycare for us women. I say it is a beautiful age for all this to come about! I don't mind my husband cooking from time to time, he can cook good and I love the creations he makes. He cleans sometimes and I know that when the time comes, he will be a wonderful daddy. I just think that people have a hard time coming out of a time where things were so so. Mostly older people have problems with the time. Right now, in our day and age...there wouldn't be sexist men against men cooking. But the generations before us have lived through world wars, the depression, cotton pickin days and they have certain ideas of how things were, and how they should stay. I must say, sometimes my husband is a better cook than me, although I cook rather well...so I can believe the chef tidbit you dropped! But I do have one rant, though. I hate it when I cook for my father-in-law, and he bit*ches about it. I know that my food is wonderful, but he doesn't like modern cooking...even if it is a salad or mac and cheese. He likes the stuff that gives him a heart attack, and/or clogs up arteries! Sexist men, if you want us women to cook, don't bit*ch about the results!!! I hope that I have answered your question!

Um... I liked you up until you said that "everyone knows that all the best chefs in the world are men." I think men and women should both share the role of cooking - and I've seen some pretty amazing food works that women have done; and just as equally, men.

I agree with the idea that cooking is women's work actually...
But I mean, of course it has to be a mutual feeling... if she isn't the type of girl who likes cooking or doing household things and feels it shouldn't be a woman's job, then a guy with old fashioned views won't be very compatible with her.
But that doesn't make him sexist. It's just the way some people are brought up, and if a boy wasn't taught to cook and clean then of course he won't be inclined to enjoy it. Many girls aren't taught to anymore either, so its a chore for both of them.
But I was taught to cook by every family I lived with growing up and I enjoy doing the "woman's" chores, it makes me feel like I'm taking care of someone. Thats not sexist, its just a part of a social feeling that some people share.

(Actually, I think my mom and grandma are the best cooks in the world.) Who knows why sexist men say anything at all?! They'd be better off not talking. Cooking is fun, and it really is an art...but some guys think that a woman's place is in the kitchen. I know a lot of guys who love to cook though and they wouldn't trade places with anybody. As long as sane people know, they can say whatever they like!

as I women, I am disgusted. you asked a question about sexism... then followed it up with a sexist remark. what gives?
as most people think cooking is 'womens' work' it is expected that women cook, and they are not given recogintion for how great they cook. it is easier for a man to get a job as a chef, because there is a smaller expectation for how well they will cook. so when something turns out good... everyone is thrilled and hires them!
so it's really just a matter of exceeding expectations. if you are expected to be a good cook, then no one will be thrilled to see that you are really are a good cook. if everyone thinks that you will suck, and it turns out good, then common sense flies out the window and your the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Traditional roles have dictated this. Some of the best chefs in the world are men like Ming Tsai and Wolfgang Puck. It really depends on who is interested in doing it or sometimes obligated to do it when the other partner is bringing in the bacon.

How could you possibly listen to that guff? Before Rembrandt married Saskia, d'ya think he was waited on hand and foot by a manservant. Let's do math. Holland. Seventeenth century. Uh ... you cook for yourself. Means ya kill the chicken, you gut the chicken, and you pluck the chicken. Then cook the chicken. A beer gut, t - shirt , ball cap, and faded jeans and a face that looks like afterbirth isn't something you wanna take a wisdom cue from.

I don't think ALL the best chefs are men, but anyway...Women have traditionally done the cooking while men have traditionally been the hunters and breadwinners.

Because they still believe in the division of labour due to capitalism and patriarchy. And even if its not sexism; Its more convenient for themto believe it or to use it to support not doing the household cooking
