Did you read it? It is pretty straight forward. The Odyssey is the account of the 10 year voyage of Odysseus and his companions on their way home from the 10 year Trojan War. Each Book tells of a different encounter, The Cyclops, The Sirens, Calypso, etc.

After the events of the Iliad, Odysseus tries to get home. Lots of things get in his way. Because he's gone so long, his neighbors all think he is dead, and every single man on the island of Ithaca asks Odysseus' wife to marry him. Odysseus finally comes home, and hilarity ensues.

After the Trojan war, Odyseus pissed off Posidon, god of the sea. Posidon sent him adrift and he had many adventures in this castaway travel. The other Gods liked Odyseus and so allowed him to return home after several years.

Throughout his travels, locals tried to marry his wife, and steal his fortune. His son came of age and tried to find his father to no avail.

When Odesseus returned home, he sought only 2 things, the love of his wife and the return of his kingdom. His wife was true to him. But he and his son had to kill several of the suiters to regain his kindom.
