You know, getting papers together, and putting them in order, and perhaps some data entry. Was it hard? What were all of your duties?

I worked in collections exclusively for 5 1/2 years. The work you described above is certainly not that of a collections representative. It sounds like you might be talking of an office clerk, or receptionist. Good Luck!

I work in billing for a law firm and have to do some light collections. I think the most important thing you can do is keep really good collection notes for each client. Note who you talked to and when, what was said, anything communicated within the office regarding the client, that sort of thing. As far as data entry goes, it depends on what accounting system they use. Ours (cms.net) is relatively easy to work with and was easy for me to learn how to use when I started. And I had no legal experience. Let me know if you have any more questions. I hope this helped!

Are you talking about debt collections? If so, I have worked in the business for about 10 years now. It is not difficult, if you have the right mindset. People approach collections from two perspectives, the negative of calling people day in and day out, telling them they need to pay their bills and the positive which is having a desire to help people out who are in need. I have enjoyed it and albeit I no longer call customers up, I do provide support to the collections group at my present employer. Sure beats working at a grocery store or something.

You just need to be very organized and have a very thick skin. You will be called every name in the book. I was in the collection business for about 20 years and loved it. But if you are a very sympathetic Pearson ,then it's not for you. You will hear every excuse from my Daddy just died to I can't feed my kids and all you can say is " I'm sorry, but that's not my concern." Good Luck if you go this direction.
