Yet more PC, nanny state rubbish!
Think of all the things the government could accomplish if it talked about some of the thousands of REAL problems this country has instead of wasting everybody's time and money!

Tom and Jerry came under scrutiny quite a few years ago for violence. It was said then that the harmful effect was that Tom kept getting up after a good beating from Jerry - or sometimes the other way around. Therefore, it was supposed to put in a persons mind that regardless of the violence, everything would be okay afterwards.
Watch the 'A' Team again. George Peppard went through something that made him decide that he wouldn't ever act again in anything that someone suffered a violent death - no one ever dies in the 'A' Team - and despite a bomb last at zero range, everyone gets up and walks away! A bit of a difference of opinion there, eh?
There are too many people that interfere in too many areas of our lives. We tend to call them 'Do Gooders'.
For anyone to grow up as a complete human being, they need the full education. Ignorance is not good. People do smoke and a youngster can only make the decision of whether they will or they won't is by being educated that it does exist rather than others pretending that it doesn't. They need to be aware of the harm that it causes.
I so smoke and I wish I didn't - but even so, it didn't have anything to do with cartoons!
Maybe perhaps we should just ban all cartoons - aren't they giving children a false impression that there are people and animals out there who someone just draws?

Yeah, Amos n Andy isn't shown anymore either! It's way too far to extinguish so much of our culture so abruptly and arbitrarily before our eyes. All In the Family was probably the last of the great ones. The death of Benny Hill was the death of fun of the variety of Roger Rabbits Paddie Cake! We're having less & less fun with each suicide bomber, assasinated leader & hanky panky Presidents. Picking up dog she it precludes enjoying a pet & butts cost more than illegal drugs! It's about way too far!

That will be a lot of Simpsons episodes to ban, because there are loads of epsides with scenes of smoking. I think instead of banning these scenes, parents need to educate their children better. Once there is better education, no cartoon can influence a child.

Small minded parents complain about the slightest things because they cant be bothered to instill proper values in their children so rely on TV to do it. When TV doesn't do it properly, they complain.

Come on people!!!

Honestly, while smoking is bad for us *as a smoker I can admit this*, isn't violence worse?? Most cartoons, in particular of the Tom & Jerry genre that seems to be most *tongue in cheek* under fire, are teemed in hatred & intolerance, violence & vendetta ... are these not as, if not more, socially unacceptable that smoking? Perhaps cartoons like these should be reserved for adult viewing only as we're all damaged enough to deal with it & hopefully not as impressionable as children are.

Totally agree with your question dude. its utterly rediculous! Kids will pick these things up anyway and not just from cartoons. Did you see the lady on the Tv that said and I quote- 'I smoke but away from the children, my daughters caught me though and now imitates me. I think it should be taken off our screens.'

What a numpty! firstly her daughter is imitating HER not a cartoon, she's the influence on her daughter aswell as TV.

They will take off cartoons like this off the TV completely soon due to the chase scenes being too violent and kids will be stuck with STUPID programs like the TWEENIES and BIG COOK rubbish COOK!!!!!

because that we are frequently discussing spelling mistakes, would I discuss that there are not any vowels in Hebrew? accordingly each be conscious in the old testomony with a vowel is arguably spelled incorrect. Translations are continuously made in the language of the translator, and as language ameliorations, so do translations. the first Webster's Dictionary did not come out till after the e book of Mormon became translated. previously then, quite a few replace spellings of common words were widely used. not one of the numerous spelling or grammatical ameliorations to the e book of Mormon are major, any more desirable than the numerous spelling and grammatical ameliorations in the Bible.

These people have gone from political correctness to trying to rewrite history!!

This intolerance of a few people in modern society is being allowed to dictate to the majority! Only violence can come from such outrageous behaviour!!
