Depends on whether you're more interested in playing with national or club teams.

If you have a PC, your most economical option is to get FIFA 06 (in the States I picked up a copy for under $9 a few months back). You can then get online and download a bunch of patches for additional teams, leagues, cups, uniforms, transfers etc. Somebody will likely come up with a patch to update rosters for FIFA 06 to emulate the rosters being used this season in real life. Just do a Google search for numerous sites.

Winning 11/Pro Evo has by far better gameplay but doesn't have near the number of licenses that FIFA does so team and player names are often generic for all but the biggest clubs in Europe.

If you get the World cup 06 you will be playing with the country teams. If you get the Fifa game you will be playing with the club teams... So it is really on what you want to play.
I prefer the fifa games...

Fifa 07' homeboy... I have always like the Fifa titles---they are more realistic and the gameplay is better/easier.

No Doubt, your choice should be Konami's new soccer game, Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007, the graphics and game play are amazing!!

go ahead and do fifa. it's what hasn't passed yet and no one knows what is going to happen. the world cup is over and i'm sure you've heard a good bit about it. so i would go for the unknown, where you don't know what exactly to expect.
