It's not that they cost more, it's the Candian dollar that's worth less. The prices you see printed on books for Canada are in Canadian dollars, for US the prices are in US dollars.

Mainly because the Canadian dollar is worth less than the US dollar, so prices in Canadian dollars are higher.
