And it's not something you routinely buy, not business-related, nor is it a gift for your spouse.

I might be old fashioned, but since we don't have a lot of extra money to spend...We ALWAYS alert eachother when we need to make an extra purchase. We budget out "spending money" for each of us, and we don't neccessarilly have to tell eachother what be buy, but we just don't go over our budgetted alotment. If we did, that would be irresponsible...a check could bounce, or something.

Plus, there just aren't any situations where I would feel it is appropriate to spend money without letting him know. there are no secrets between us. If you lie about money...You don't trust eachother...(and keeping a secret is the same as lying!)

It really depends on what it is and how bad I want/need/can justify it to her. But we have separate bank accounts at different banks. She has bills she pays and I have bills I pay. That makes it less of an issue.

The most expensive item I purchased to date was $2700 for a mountain bike a few years ago...but I do have my eye on a golf cart now that is about $4000.

...she just bought herself a new Mustang convertible in May without discussing it with me...I had no problem with it.

Incidentally, she wasn't all that pleased about the mountain bike but will like the golf cart.

There's a Coach purse that I want and it's $145. I'll end up buying it, but I'll tell my husband that it was $80 on sale, even though it wasn't. He doesn't understand why we spend so much on our purses and sunglasses.

We both work and put money into our accounts, so I don't see the problem with me spending that much.

Since I don't work and my husband tends to keep track of the money and the bills (just b/c he's better at it than I am; the man's got the bills down a science. lol) no more than $20. Anything over I like to clear it with him to make sure.

I bought a laptop yesterday without asking but he might get mad. I usually consult on all large purchases. I would say anything over a 100 is asking for it

Not more than $50. But of course it's ok for him to go buy an XBox without consulting me...

As long as you both know how much money you have coming in it doesn't matter. I bought a new Jetta last year and didn't Ask. What are you a baby and have to ask permission?

I don't spend any money without consulting my husband first. We agreed to this during pre-marital counseling since he works and I don't.
