there is not a message in that song. If you play ANY song backwards, you can surely pick out something that sounds like something you want to hear. This is an old myth that has been around for a long time.
Studies have shown that the human brain can not interpret a phrase that is recorded backwards in a song. So, there is no point in doing it.

This started in the 60's. Perhaps by someone smoking marijuana. Some songs were said to contain hidden messages. (maybe by the record company to sell more records). Lots of people tried it, but few came up with more than gibberish.
We were able to play it backward because we had vinyl records and could manipulate the turn table; but only manually, so most were jerky.
Cd's and tapes can't be played backward. So your up a creek without a paddle.

The laughable contention was first brought up by extreme christian conservatives (some whisper Jerry Falwell's bunch) with nothing better to do than defame / discredit rock n' roll music. Their argument was "back-masking" was a clever ploy done by Led Zeppelin and other rock icon bands of the 70s to suggest "satanic" messages into our subconscious while we listen to the songs; the only way to expose this horrific attempt was to play the song backwards.
By the way: the same bunch who tried to have us believe KISS was an anagram for Knighs In Satan's Service, cooked this up---and were loudly vocal about it.....
.....until it was proven that such "satanic" and "illegal drug praising" messages were found in Christian music as well. Ooops: no one saw THAT one comming!!! When asked to respond on TV, the fundamentalists had "no comment"....and the whole back-masking controversy pretty much died flat from there.

actually this is not the only song to have this said about it....another song is queens another one bites the dust....all are myths....in the middle of the song (stairway) supposedly if played backwards there are lyrics that pretty much are an ode to satan but this is only a myth....bible thumpers are the ones who began the rumors....why? i dont know...i mean youre right in why would someone play it backwards but really if you think about it the turntables in that day didnt contain the technology we have now in order to spin in reverse and theres really no way (unless youre really good) that you could obtain proper speed in order to hear anything but rubbish

There's one at the end of "Darling Nikki" by Prince. And on Iron Maiden's "Still Life". The latter is an Idi Amin quote.
