Sonogram measurements for pregnancies are based on the LMP (first day of last mentrual period). Actual conception time would be approx. 2 weeks less than that-although not all females ovulate at mid-cycle. So it would be a 7 week pregnancy based on the LMP . This is what medical professionals would use when they refer to the age of the pregnancy and arriving at the due date.

Most medical professionals will use the gestational age instead of the fetal age. Gestational age includes the 2 weeks from your period to your ovulation. Fetal age is just from conception/ovulation. So, if the doctor says your are 7 weeks then the baby has probably been growing for 5 weeks. Most of the time when people are talking about how far along you are they are talking about the gestational age. They say that a pregnancy is 40 weeks long, but the baby is only growing for 38 of those weeks. Hope this helps and congratulations!

It's from your last period. The first 2 weeks of a pregnancy you arent really pregnant, so the baby has only been in there 5 weeks. Still, you would say that you are 7 weeks along.

Your due date is figured by taking the first day of your last period and adding on 40 weeks.
So, if you're 7 weeks pregnant, that means that you're actually 5 weeks because they probably assumed that you ovulated 2 weeks after your last period.

I know how you feel. My mom died soon before I found out I was pregnant with my second little girl and my periods were so abnormal I didnt have a clue how far along I was. The only thing I found to ease my mind was websites like this one http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators/pregnancy/pregnancy.html where you can use your due date the doctor gave you and it estimates what day you got prenant on when you click "calculate backwards"

They always measure from the first day of you last period, not from the point of conception, since there is never anyway of knowing when they is.

You weren't pregnant when your period ended so it would HAVE to be since you conceived.
