Technically, your cable modem had a coax jack on it to bring your Internet connection into your home and your ADSL modem will have a RJ11 (phone) jack to bring your connection into your home.
The RJ11 only has four wires where the RJ45 has eight. (Superfluous information; it is possible to use RJ45 for your phone line)
With that being said, although it may look, feel and sound like the RJ11 plug will go into a RJ45 jack - in your case (in any case for that matter) it will do you no good because you are putting the source of your Internet connection into an 'output' jack. You may even find some home routers that have 4 to 8 RJ45 ports for your home systems and 1 or 2 RJ11 ports, but this is only to allow for High Speed phone capabilities (such as Vonage, etc.)
End state, you must have an ADSL modem, and if you plan on hooking more than one computer up at your home, you should have a router (I would suggest one that supports DSL, Cable and phone jacks for any possible future capability you may run into).

Are you sure? The ADSL should have at least two sockets. One that is RJ11 for your phone connection and a RJ45 to connect between the router and your ADSL modem. You may also have a USB connection on the modem that will you to directly connect to the modem with one computer. Anyway, You'll need RJ45 Ethernet cables to connect between the router and the ADSL modem because Ethernet the standard protocol. This requires two pairs of wires: one pair to send the other to receive. RJ11 may have this but not in the right locations of the sockets and doesn't support frequencies up to 100MHz, which would greatly limit your transmission speed. So it really won't work.

You could certainly jam a RJ11 connector into a RJ45 port but I wouldn't bother as it is not going to work. What you need to do is use your ADSL modem; connect the RJ11 to one side and connect the computer with the USB or RJ45 connector you were provided with by your ISP.

i don't believe so, unless maybe with an adapter,,,which i haven't seen... an rj11 is for a telephone outlet and is much smaller than an rj45 and a rj45 is for your ethernet connection or router, brouter, hub, switch and i don't know what else they have out there...your adsl that only has an rj11 connection is probably for your modem and not a router...in all my experience, i've never seen a router with rj11 sockets, however, i have seen a telephone with an rj45 socket...weird huh... let me know the outcome... email me if you can at canoman007@yahoo.com

No it will not, they look similar and you can jam in the RJ45 but you will not get a connection.
This means you have a cable router/modem, you need a router with an adsl modem which is a different thing.

RJ11 is 3 twisted pairs.....RJ45 is 4 twisted pairs
You can get adaptors which will allow certain operations, but I doubt that it will work in the situation that you have.

No it won't work. RJ 11 is telephone wire and RJ45 is wider for more data, ie internet. Also, RJ45's jack is larger than RJ11's

No.
You need a ADSL modem which is provided by your ISP and the phone cable gets connected there and then you need a Cat5(RJ45) to connect from the modem to the router.
That's all.
