Sitting on a park bench --
eyeing ittle girls with bad intent.
Snot running down his nose --
greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Drying in the cold sun --
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Feeling like a dead duck --
spitting out pieces of his broken luck.

Sun streaking cold --
an old man wandering lonely.
Taking time
the only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
as he bends to pick a dog-end --
he goes down to the bog
and warms his feet.

Feeling alone --
the army's up the rode
salvation à la mode and
a cup of tea.
Aqualung my friend --
don't start away uneasy
you poor old sod, you see, it's only me.
Do you still remember
December's foggy freeze --
when the ice that
clings on to your beard is
screaming agony.
And you snatch your rattling last breaths
with deep-sea-diver sounds,
and the flowers bloom like
madness in the spring.

Watching the people get lairy
It's not very pretty I tell thee
Walking through town is quite scary
and not very sensible either
A friend of a friend he got beaten
He looked the wrong way at a policeman
Would never have happened to Smeaton
Or Ol' Oleatensian

I predict a riot (chorus)

Going to get in a taxi
A man in a tracksuit attacked me
He said that he saw it before me
Wants to get things a bit gory
Girls run around with no clothes on
To borrow a pound for a condom
If it wasn't for chip fat they'd be frozen
Oh, they're not very sensible....

THE KAISER CHIEFS - "I Predict a Riot"

Well...I don't know about you, but these lyrics are original and very recent. (And made me laugh with their tacky, yet socially observant lyrics. Very true to life if you've ever been out in Leeds on a Saturday night.)

I love a lot of old music lyrics, too, love musicians like Hendrix and Clapton, The Moody Blues, ELO, The Stones, Deep Purple, Hall and Oates, Doobie Brothers...to name just a few.

But to say the new stuff doesn't have occasional greatness is to be a bit narrow minded. ;o)

If we don't have it anymore, that's just GREAT.
But then all the garbage from the eighties onwards sounds to me just like garbage
