Yesterday my husband and I heard a noise under my car. It sounded like a small whip hitting the pavement. He said that it looked like one of my tires was balled. I asked if we could get a new tire while we were in town. He said that he wasn't sure what the noise was and needed to take a better look at it. Shouldn't we still replace the tire though? Mom said I could have a blowout. That was my concern too, but I am nervous to say anything to him because he tends to always get defensive and tell me that he knows more about cars than I do. He told me yesterday that he has driven on balled tires before. I suffer from depression a lot and so it is hard for me to tell if this is just an anxiety thing, or if I am right to be concerned. I don't want to upset him by talking about it. He hurt his foot at work last night and I don't want to upset him. Sometimes I feel like he doesn't take care of me right when it comes to the safety of cars..maybe it's just me? Thanks everyone.

P.S. We have been married for 14 years now. You would think I wouldn't still be nervous to bring these things up to him.

Thanks everyone! You have all been very supporitive. I am always afraid to take my car in by myself..afraid I will offend him. I guess the worst thing that could happen from that would be he would get upset...the worst thing that would happen from me not getting it looked at is I could be killed, Uhm...not really a comparison there. By the way, I knew the word balled looked wrong, lol...it is bald, isn't it? My husband is good to me in many ways...but when it comes to this, it is like he doesn't get it. He thinks I am being the irrational one! Thanks again.

After 14 years, you shouldn't be uncomfortable discussing anything with him. Our spouses share the secrets of our souls and share the intimacy of our bodies right? OK, enough spiritual philosophy.
Bald tires are bad. Take a penny and put Lincoln headfirst into one of the grooves. If you can see the top of Linconln's head, you need new tires. If there are wires sticking out, you need them NOW

Next time your out driving the car why don't you just go to a tire store and get a second opinion. If they say you need a new tire let your husband know you took the initiative and checked into it yourself and he was right, you do need a new tire. Maybe he'll appreciate that fact that you did it yourself and didn't have to wait on him. If he gets upset, just drop the subject for a while.
Or you can go let the air out of the tire and tell him it went flat so its probably time for a new one.

Just let him know that you would appreciate it if he would take into consideration checking out your car, Its better safe than sorry . He needs to take more care of you and respect the fact that not only cuz hes a male he thinks he knows more about cars so that somethig like that would never happen things could happen. Dont blame things on you that are not your fault... Just try to find a way to talk to him.
Good Luck>>>

This is really harsh, but your husband sounds like a loser. I can't believe he would let you drive on bald tires. You could definitely have a blowout, and if you drive in bad weather, your traction won't be worth anything. Yikes. I would take the car myself and fix the tire, if I were you ... forget about the loser.

I would tell him that you are concerned for your safety and you are going to get a new tire and also go get the car checked out. You don't want to be in an accident.

Is there something that prevents you taking your car to a mechanic to get it checked out? I always do so when I have concern. Your safety and peace of mind should come first. Just take your car in.

First of all, always protect your woman!
Secondly, it sounds like the tread goes deeper than the tire on this relationship.

that does seem to be a safety issue that needs to be addressed...however your inability to communicate with your spouse is an even larger issue...i hope you can become more comfortable talking to him
