You cannot be serious!?
eb·on·y
n. pl. eb·on·ies
1. Any of various tropical Asian or African trees of the genus Diospyros.
2. The wood of such a tree, especially the hard black heartwood of E. ebenum or certain other species, used in cabinetwork and inlaying and for piano keys.
3. The hard dark wood of various other trees.
4. The color black; ebon.
adj.
1. Made of or suggesting ebony.
2. Black in color.
So if something is BLACK in color, I am a racist for saying ebony???
The freaking dog is BLACK!
My friend had a black dog named Blackie, I guess we didn't know what terrible people we were!

It's a beautiful and original name nice, summery of 2 cultures. Besides ebony is the hardest and beautiful wood , it's related to strenght and resistance. Why have we always to think to black as negative and racial?. Isn't that with the obsession of being politically correct(????) we are cutting the freedom of variety of expressions because we risk to offend anybody anyways?
Do we have to ban all colours for that?

Your black friend is simply looking for a way to be offended and if she continues with that attitude she's going to have a very unhappy life. What's she going to do when she moves next door to someone with a cat named Toby. What meaning did she put on the fact that Darth Vader was dressed all in black? Was it racially motivated? Tell her to give her head a shake. or she'll waste half her life or trivialities while really important things are going on.

I don't think that's racist. I'm white, but still, you're calling her a *BEAUTIFUL* black girl. If you called your dog ugly black dog, sure but I think the name's nice. Plus, I used to have a neighbor (who was black) who named their daughter that I used to play with ebony so, I don't get your friend's deal.

They obviously are way too sensitive to the use of the word black. Also, would they prefer it meant Ugly Black Girl? Or perhaps you could have used that certain 'N' word instead and really given them something to gripe about. The words used are not used in a degrading manner. Tell your 'Friends' to pull their heads out of their behinds and get with the 21st century.

I dont think I can help you out, but I dont see where that is racist at all. Our society needs to quit with all this "politically correct" garb!!!!
We are all people, and it doesnt matter what color our skin is, we all have the same color of blood running through our veins, and we are all equal to one another..... God created us in his own image, and that makes us all the same.... Just different colors and who cares what color a person's skin is???? I think your dogs name is very pretty and Im sure it is very fitting for your dog!!!!

Racist??? I don't THINK so! You have a beautiful Pom with black hair and you named her very appropriately. Unless your friends are just joking around, they are way too sensitive. It's sad that society has become so thin skinned as to think everything is so offensive to everyone else. Needs to stop - and soon.

My cousin has a black pit bull named Ebony, and no one I know seems to think that's weird. Maybe your friends are overly sensitive.

Yep there are many types of racism I don't think the human race can resolve this problem if your so called friend is your friend then he should let it be because he knows what you are on about he is being ignorant and racist himself so just ignore all and do what you feel is right.
Take care!
