I have a beautiful wood floor in my home (my husband is a floor installer) he freaked out when he saw me using water and vinegar to clean it with (bit of dish soap too). He said NO WATER!! But he didn't have a good suggestion for what to use. He just said get a floor cleaner. Most floor cleaners I see are also polishes. I don't want to polish a dirty floor...right? Please help.

Murphys Oil Soap is what i use. You do mix it with water but it's okay if you wring out the mop well. I think so anyway...but my DH freaks out as well. I wash the wood floors only every couple of months & theyre in good shape...6 plus years now. We have a no shoes policy at home & that helps a lot. No scratches.

You should use one of those cleaners that are also polishers. Depending on the manufacturer of the wood, most have their own reccommended cleaner. However most are going to work just fine. The key is to use sparingly and not to leave down too long. If it is an engineered wood floor, it will have small gaps between the boards and you will need to get the liquid off ASAP. If it hardwood, it makes no difference what you use as the floor is sealed with polyurethane and water won't seep through for quite some time. Good Luck.

Murphy's Oil Soap... my mom used it for years when I was little, it's the only thing I remember her cleaning wood floors with, so, apparantly it worked pretty good.

I use white vinegar on my hardwood floors, but I never use a mop, I use a sponge and wring it out well, and get down on my hands and knees and wipe with the damp sponge and dry with a towel
