the gall bladder is not considered a vital organ and your body can cope just fine w/out it...

it's job is to store the bile produced by your liver and pass it on to the small intestine. w/out it-a tube will be attached to your liver to allow bile to enter the small intestine...

removal of the gall bladder is considered when there are several gall stones or if the stones are too large to remove.

this is a common procedure and has minimal complications if any-no need to worry.

if you have questions-make sure to ask your doctor before having the procedure done-it's their job to make sure you understand everything about the surgery.

You don't actually need it. You can live without a gall bladder. A friend of mine had hers removed. It was done laproscopic. She had 3 small incisions to remove it. Many people can live without even knowing that they have stones. It just depends on how much pain you are in after you eat. If you can tolerate it, you can probably put surgery off for now. My friend couldn't tolerate it anymore so she did it. She was glad she had it done too and wished she had done it sooner. Oh, and I think that you can have an acute attack which I am pretty sure hurts a lot! I knew a girl that happened too, she had to go to the hospital immediately.

During some cancer tests, they found I had 3 stones in my gall bladder, the doctor said if they bother you we can take them out, if not don't worry about them, that was 12 years ago, the only thing I really stay away from is Peanuts, so the correct answer is if it bothers you take it out it is not a big operation

Techincally no you don't, a doctor wouldn't remove an organ from you if you needed it. Both my brother and my mother had to have there gall bladder taken out. Nothing bad comes out of it, except from what they said is that they can't eat spicy foods anymore.

there is no real use for a gallbladder if there is one stone now chances are there will be more and its good to have it removed. the dr will put you to sleep make 3 slits and one in the naval he will pull the gallbladder out from the naval stitch you up and you can go home the next day in a week you come back and have the stitches out. you'll be advised to change your diet, no greasy, fried, oily, spicy foods or drinks no gravies or heavy creams as all of these may cause diarreaha and you could lose some weight with this after having the surgery

The standard treatment for gallstones is the removal of the entire gallbladder because the stones can come back again. If the stone is small enough it probably doesn't need to come out. Most people have gall stones.what they don't tell you is that the gallstones can come back even if you have the gallbladder removed.Watch your diet and avoid allot of hydrogenated fats which form stones.Your body can manage without a gallbladder but it may cause digestive problems.

No you don't need a gallbladder. But if you haven't already, you will think you are going to die if you don't have it removed, though. My husband suffered in college with gallstones and he wanted to die from the intense pain several times before they figured out what the problem was and he had surgery to remove it.

He had laproscopic which was a very short recovery time and he's never had problems since.

Why didn't you ask the doctor that question? (Lots of people have their gall bladder removed and live comfortably without it.)

No, a gallbladder processes fat in out system. Nowadays fats are so refined, we don't need a gallbladder. I had mine out in 2000. The pain from the attacks what alot worse than the pain from surgery. They went in through three little hole, one my belly button and I barely have any scars.
