Depends on the efforts you take into plot contstruction, character creation....and most importantly: research. Could take months....or maybe years.
OK: months more likely.....good luck and hope to see your work at B. Dalton!!!

It all depends on how long the story needs to be and how the author works and how well she edits, which is a major part of writing. I did one in 4 years around my kids and other jobs and another in 10 years also around the above and the other book. Some write a novel in two months and spend another month editing. Only a few can produce a quality book that quickly, though. Most often it's at least a year of several hours a day.
I think authors should be more concerned about getting the story right and editing well than about how long it will take. It should take as long as it needs instead of being done on a publisher's schedule. There are too many of those out there, and it shows.

It depends on the person. Look how many books Stephen King or Dean Koontz have come out with over the course of thier careers.
Some authors put books out every couple of months.
Other popular authors such as Michael Crichton or Nelson DeMille can take a few years to put out a new book.

Something tells me you're expecting it to take months. No. Most books take a year to a year and six months to write, not to mention editing and finding a publisher. If that seems like "too long to wait" then writing is NOT for you.

There's a couple of crazy contests where would-be authors spit out a book in 72 hours. I can't imagine it myself. I wrote a book--and not even an overly long one--and it took five years.

It depens on the author. If the author has no ideas left, it will might take motnhs to come up with new ideas. In the other hand, the author might finish it's book in a night.

I wrote a book in 3 months. It took longer than that for editing and publishing and such, but it was complete in 3 months.
With your question, something tells me you should re-learn your grammar....
