If I remember correctly, Xuan Zang was a Buddhist monk who was sent to India for special studies by the Chinese Emperor in the 7th century A.D. His diary is a historical chronicle of the places he visited and the details he observed and documented. His accounts of India and her people is of immense historical importance.

XuangZang goes by various names, apparently:
Hsuan Tsang aka Tang Sanzang , Shun Woo Kung , Xuangzang, a Buddhist Monk around 600 AD
"One of the greatest of foreign travellers to ancient India was Hsuang Tsang (or "Xuangzang", as he is referred to in China), the celebrated Buddhist scholar-pilgrim from China who spent 14 years of his life, from 630 to 644 A.D., in various parts of the Indian subcontinent. The links he established in his time between two great civilisations of the period remained strong and abiding."
"Xuanzang returned to China to teach and share the original writings and learnings of Buddha. His travels were the basis for the well-known Chinese novel “The Journey to the West.”"
The above are quotes from sites listed below. Check them for more information or search on the other names listed for more sites to visit. Hope this information helps. Good luck!!
