I would advise getting a seperate printer and scanner, and setting up your computer to recieve faxes (you can save to disk and print them out if you want or choose auto-print. Saves you some ink.)
As far as performace/ease of use, this would be the best option, especially for photo printing because you can't get an all-in-one with the same 6 or 8 color ink system that you can with stand-alone. Also, if one of your components breaks, you're out of luck, but with seperate items, just replace the item that is broken. Also, I have come into problems with my g/f Windows machine recognizing which part of the unit it's supposed to be addressing (scanner/printer), but have never tried an all-in-one on my mac.
As far as the money goes, a seperate system costs about the same, if not less, as an all-in-one.
As far as HP goes, they're okay... I am really diggin' their sleeker designs, but I have noticed that my g/f pays a lot more for her ink. I have an Epson R220, and although their ink is harder to find, the 6 ink printing system makes my ink last longer and they're replacement cartridges are less expensive than HP. I would recommend Canon or Epson and say "run away" from Lexmark.

HP is awesome. Get this...
If you hurry over to Best Buy this week, you can catch the HP Photosmart 3210 on sale for $249. It prints/copies/scans perfectly and makes some of the best photos on the market. It even has a negative/slide adapter so that you can print photos directly from your old negatives without using a PC. It has 6 individual ink cartridges and you can buy all 6 ink a pack for $36.99 or you can purchase them individually.
If you really want fax, the step from the HP 3210 is the HP 3310. It does everything the 3210 does, but it also has wireless networking and fax capabilities. Both of these machines are the best ones one the market right now and are even Bluetooth enabled. The 3310 is also on sale, but it is $349. Both printers have an LCD screen for viewing/editing photos. You can zoom, crop, remove red eye, turn them into black and white, etc.
If both those prices are too much, the HP C4180 also copies/scans/prints and does great photos, but isn't quite as feature rich as the other printers I mentioned. It runs around $149.
All the printers I mentioned are PC and Mac compatible.

I have an HP and love it. It is just a printer though. I have copied hundreds of movie covers.....and photos. The main thing I looked for after my old printer messed up was one that had the --- I think they are the ink jets----in the cartridges and not on the printer. By having them on the ink cartridges---you always get new ones and don't have to worry about them clogging up on your printer...That is what my old printer did....I have an HP Deskjet 5740.

Hi,
I think you can get everything you want and a lot of consumer written reviews at cheapest prices search engine.
They are a really good place for finding the current prices from almost every merchant all in one place. It saves me time and money.
Good luck to you I hope this helps you.
