They say pregnant women think they can get whatever they want while being pregnant, but my husband and I live in a studio with a really really really noisy A/C unit. He sweats massively with the slightest degree of heat and has to have it running 24/7. The problem is that im a really light sleeper and at night it sounds like a chain saw blazing through the room when it turns back on (set on Auto 75deg) I want him to turn it off at nights so i can sleep peacefully but he complains about sweating and he really does sweat its like a pool in the bed when he doesnt have the a/c on. and family says to avoid ear plugs cause it will mess with my ear wax... what should i do. should i ask again to turn off the a/c at nights for the remainder of my pregnancy? im 5months and in the next month and a half hopefully we'll be moving to a new bigger place with central air... we are in the process of apt and house hunting right now.

In response to some of the answers posted.. 1. we live in a studio there is no other rooms everything is in one big room (well not big at all). 2.I just moved in about a month ago never had to sleep there before so its a new exp. 3. would love to get it fixed but we moved there to save money for the baby and new place not to fix the apt peoples a/c unit. 4. Fan idea sounds really good or maybe just the ear plugs! Thanks for your input :)

Use the ear plugs.....not sure what they mean by mess with your ear wax. If you have enough ear wax to the point it is hitting ear plugs you should have your ears cleaned.

Call your landlord and make sure the a/c isn't broken. They're not supposes to be so noisy that you can't sleep.

As for being selfish...eh, that's tricky. I know you need your sleep because you're pregnant, but have you ever tried to go to sleep when you're miserably hot and sweaty? It's not fun.

I would use ear plugs. They won't affect your ear wax...I've never heard of that before. My husband works nights and sleeps during the day. We have a 2 1/2 year old and a 13 month old, and he needs the ear plugs so he can sleep! His ears are fine...

My husband wants the air on all the time too, but the electric bill kills us, so we compromised and got a fan for when it's not extremely hot. Have him put the fan directly on him. Even if it's not really cold air, cooler air blowing on him constantly will probably keep him cool. Also, if it's a constant hum, you will probably be able to sleep thru it. My husband likes the fan on even in the winter and I use to think I wouldn't get use to the noise, but your body can usually tune out white noise like that. Who knows, you may actually want the air on too in another month or two. I am always cold, but when I was pregnant I was always warm. Good luck.

Ear plugs won't mess with your ear wax...so get yourself a pair and let hubby sleep. Just hang in there for his sake. Buy him a cheap fan to put by the side of the bed...se if that will work for him adn turn the a/c off

Take a deep breath. Has to be some give and take. I'd go with earplugs, big glass of warm milk and a dish of yogurt for bed. As far as the earplugs, if you keep your ears clean and clean the plugs every morning, you shouldn't have any trouble. Hopefully, you'll get a place with central a/c soon.

You need all the sleep you can get now, because it is only going to get harder to rest, and I am not talking about after the baby's birth. If the sweating does't wake him up, I say let the air conditioner stay off at night so you can sleep.

This is a difficult question...

I don't think you're being selfish by wanting a good night's sleep, but I understand where your husband is coming from.

Frankly, I think I'd do the earplugs. Or I'd start sleeping on the sofa or something.

Yea it's kind of selfish to ask him to be uncomfortable all night, while you get some peace and quiet. Buy why is this a issue now? Was it a issue before you were pregnant? If not it sounds like you are only trying to get your way.

i know it sucks, but i would leave it on if i were you, being pregnant you will start to get more and more hot flashes and you want to make sure that you stay cool so baby doesn't get too hot. is it a problem that you could have someone come in and fix? if not, try to find an equal medium with your husband. good luck
