I like Cannavaro more, but they are so different. Why are people always comparing them to each other? They don't play the same position on the field and their skills are different. I prefer Beckham as a midfielder but as a defender I prefer Cannavaro. They are both great players but I guess that Beckham's time is almost up, Cannavaro is hotter today.

Cannavaro. Beckham isn't even good enough to start for an underachieving England squad--in fact, he was just cut. His free kicks are top of the world and his passing is accurate but beyond that he has little to offer. His speed, his ability to run at people and his defense seemed lacking. Cannavaro on the other hand had a brilliant cup for the winning team. If it weren't for head butting Zidane, he would have won best player. His energy, decision making and positioning were key in the Azzuri's defense.

Cannavaro is a solid defender who gave up very few fouls in the last world cup. He is the captain of the best team in the world (the Azzurri). He rarely ever makes mistakes and he and the other members of the Italian Back 4 and Buffon worked very well together. Beckham is extremely overrated, just because a movie was named after him (and he wasn't even in it), and his free kicks are superb. But look at other players like Francesco Totti and Andrea Pirlo. They both are superb free kick and corner kick takers. Totti didn't show it in Germany, but with AS Roma he is dynamite. I may be getting off-topic, but defintely Cannavaro by a mile!

At Beckham's prime, i'm sure he was a fantastic player, as cannavaro is right now. i really can't choose between the two because i think they are both excellent players. but currently, i will say that cannavaro has been better.

Based solely on the performance in the recent World Cup, I'd say Cannavaro. However, overall, I'd go with Beckam.

Cannovaro has proven himself on the world stage by leading the Italians to the World Cup. Beckham is past his prime although his set pieces and crosses still provide a threat or two. I believe Cannovaro still have a few good years left in him and Real Madrid has got themselves a good defender.
