Has anyone had an early ultrasound (like 8 wks or so) that was off by 5-7 days? I thought they were suppose to be pretty accurate. My second u/s dates were off by over 2 wks (at 22 wks gestation) Should I assume that the first one was wrong too?

Typically ultrasounds performed during the first trimester are accurate to within 3-4 days, so yours still is pretty close. The farther along you are, the less accurate they are at predicting due dates and weight. The reason for this is most babies gain the exact same weight and are the same length to about 12 weeks. After that, they grow at different rates. Ultrasounds use a formula to calculate weight using different measurements and then compare this to averages. The problem with this is we all have different body densities and ultrasounds can't pick that up.

I would say your first ultrasound would be much more accurate than your second one.

Best of luck!

Did the ultra sound give you a new due date or a new "this is how far along you are"? Because if it was a "this is how far along you are" it could be because they are going by GESTATION age and not pregnancy age. You are counted pregnant about 2 weeks before you are actually pregnant. So if you are 20 weeks pregnant then they baby is only 18 weeks old. So at 8 weeks pregnant the baby is supposed to measure 6 weeks because it is only 6 weeks old (gestation).

Does this make sense? Hope it helps.

Mine was off by a month!! According to my cycle, the doctor said the due date was 2/15, but the ultrasound technician told me 3/15 (my dr agreed, and thought I "forgot" my cycle dates or something). I went to deliver on 2/17 and they kept me on steriods and pills to keep the baby in. On 2/21 he popped out regardless, healthy and full-term. I was in labor for 4 days though, back and forth to the hospital, so I was mad they wouldn't just let me have the baby! It's totally normal to have a baby come within 2 weeks before or a week after the date (although if you go 1 week past now, they induce you).

I had an early ultrasound; at about eight weeks a few years ago. I thought I was due Dec 16th according to my calculations. After the ultrasound, they said Dec 12th. And I had the baby November 26th (after being 3 cm for three weeks prior). And my baby was a good weight, 7lb 6oz.

So who knows, but I wouldn't stress over it. Doesn't really matter, right? As long as the baby is healthy.

I don't know about ultrasounds these days, but when I had my last two ultrasounds, both my boys were suppose to be girls. Go figure :-)

Yes, they can be wrong.
