The Houston Rockets started Rafer Alston at the point last year. He shot a woefull 37% from the field. That is not a good stat for a starting PG especially in the west... What do you guys think?

I think they need a better point guard. Rafer Alston is a street baller. He's good, but not for the rockets. But you also have to look at the injuries they been havin'!! T-Mac got a bad back...Yao's foot is messed up. U can have the best PG in the game....but when you not playing with your big men together...constantly, you will always have problems

Yes. Rafer Alston is not consistent, he's not the best at scoring, he shoots under 40% well, last season anyway. T-Mac and Yao are great players, but having a great floor general (i.e. J. Kidd, S.Nash) would help the Rockets return to Playoff contenders. I wouldn't start Luther Head so, yeah, Alston was their choice.

Yes, they need a point guard without a hunger to shoot. Alston is a shooter/scoring point guard in the mold of Stoudamire and Marbury. Two superstars who demand the ball as much as Yao and Tmac need pass first point guards with outside shooting and ability to step up and score when needed such as Luke ridnour or Chris Paul. Even a guy like Eric Snow would help alot. Bobby Sura's return next season certainly won't hurt either.

Jeff van Gundy does not really need point guard that can really shoot. Let me explain. With inside-outside presence of Yao and Macgrady, the half court set needs to revolve around this two. Rafer Alston is a good ballhandler, T-Mac doesn't have to carry the ball upcourt all the time considering the fork that sticks out of his back.

I remember Sura and Bowen really can light up the 3-ball on their good day. So I don't really think your problem is there. HOUSTON's problem is you got a stiff call Patrick Ewing on the coaching staff and another stiff called Dikembe Mutombo that is messing up Yao from reaching his maximum potential. Have you seen the Knicks when Ewing was there? The only time they reached the finals was when he was injured against Pacer. They ended up beating pacers and reached the finals. Google "EWING THEORY" and see for yourself.

Since Yao and T-Mac are sooooooooooo good, why couldn't they win with a below average point guard??? T-Mac needs to stay healthy for the entire year!!!!!

Yeah, they may need to trade Alston , but if rockets can't then they might place him on the bench.

They not only need a new pointguard.
They need to refresh their roster if they are ever going to get the best out of T-Mac and Yao.

They had Mike James but when the traded him they made a big mistake. they wanted a pass first guard and they got one. but also mike wanted to stay in Houston. After he was traded he fired his agent which was a bad decision because he had one of the best agents in the NBA.
