Yes, stamps are a means for paying postage. You pay in advance by buying the stamp and then use it at your convenience. Before stamps were invented (1840), all letters had to be taken to the post office to pay the postage or else the person receiving the letter had to pay to get it.

Some people will accept stamps instead of cash in payment for small purchases, but that practice, once common, is now very rare.

postage stamps can be used in a barter situation I would assume . Food stamps and WIC coupons are a medium of currency exchange in the ghetto at camel jockey stores and towel head stores . They give about 75% of the value in cash to you . Then the feds get them and whack them and send them for a visit with big , bad , and black Bubba .
