Bottom line, are the neo-cons driving this agenda neo-fascist? Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, published research on fascism in which he examined the fascist regimes of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each fascist State:
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarceration of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists; terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military are glamorized.
5. Rampant sexism - The government of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
7. Obsession with National security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are intertwined - Government in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation are often the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated, or are severely restricted.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassinations of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
Benito Mussolini - who knew something about fascism - had a more straightforward definition: “Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.”
Abraham Lincoln stated, “I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me, and causes me to tremble for the safety of our country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people, until wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the republic is destroyed.”
The small, but ruthless, group of men, the “money power” described by Lincoln, has stolen democracy from the American people. An ever-growing number of informed Americans, however, are fighting a brave, but desperate rear-guard action to retrieve that democracy. Will we give them our total support now, or simply sit back and watch as the entire planet is taken back to the dark ages? “The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing.”

You are a victim of the liberal media. President Bush is doing an outstanding job of fighting terrorism which is an almost impossible task. Our soldiers are not criminals and they have not tossed out the Geneva convention. The things that went on at Abh Ghraib amounted to fraternity pranks, not torture. Compare that to how they treat prisoners: beheading them with a small knife while videotapping the whole event. You say President Bush isn't doing anything and then criticize international phone surveilance as "domestic spying": obviously you are just listening to liberals and not checking out the facts. Our politics are divided because we each have our own agenda and principles. To be a liberal you need to believe that abortion on demand is good and that taxpayers should help pay for it. Conservatives think unborn children are living beings that have rights. To be a liberal you want to let murderers live at the taxpayers expense instead of supporting capital punishment, which is the most effective deterrent there is. To be a liberal you think that putting down America, even in the press and in public view of other countries is the thing to do instead of supporting your country and being the least bit patriotic. The terrorists we fight today are a very real threat and we must use every tool at our disposal to rid the world of them, or the freedom that allows you to hold the opinions you now have will certainly be eradicated, probably along with you.

Let's face it: the only way things are going to change is for the voters, that have the legal right to vote, to actually vote. Fifty years ago, people were not afraid or over-burdened by politics. They got out there, voiced their opinion and made a difference. Most Americans have become complacent because they feel that their vote doesn't matter. To a point, this opinion is correct. No matter who is elected into office, given the inidividuals we've had to choose from lately, isn't going to do the job that the majority of Americans want done.
Bush has not been the greatest president ever and there are no reasons for the decisions that he has made, only excuses and none of them are viable.
We can all sit around on our computers all day and rant about the state of affiars, or we can make ourselves and our positions known by getting over the petty rascism and bigotry and do something that the constitution gives us the right to do - run the government. We are the people. But the people are too concerned about where their next meal is coming from to look at the bigger issue as to why that food is not there.
The people need to change before the government will. And it doesn't matter what party gets elected into office, at the end of the day, they are single human beings, not donkeys or elephants.

I've got a better question for you. Why are all the far left spending so much time bashing Bush? He won't be running in 2008. And the majority of the Democrats in Congress allowed him to do all those things and never said Jack. Oh I'm sorry they complain about everything he does years after it happens. They can't brag about what they have done because they haven't done anything.
I've yet to hear ANY Democrat say what they would do to stop terrorism. Like it or not there are those out in the world who would do us far more harm than eavesdropping on phone calls would ever do.

So many lies, untruths and fabrications, it is hard to know where to start.
W doing Osamas bidding? By killing off most of the leaders in his organization? By making him live in a hole on the run? Where is the logic in this claim?
Suspended civil liberties? Like what, exactly? No liberties have been suspended. The Constitution hasn't been 'defied'. This is delusional paranoia.
Junked the Geneva Convention. No, the Geneva convention only applies to signatory states, an only covers uniformed soldiers who fight according to the conventions. Terrorists are violators of every article of the convention, and have no standing to be eligible for the protections of the Geneva Conventions. Legally, they could have all been executed on the spot.
Tortured prisoners. Well, ya' need to prove that one. Abu Ghraib abuses were illegal acts conducted independently by individuals, who the Army prosecuted. 'Due Process' at Gitmo? Terrorists, even if we treated them as Geneva Convention POWs, are not eligible for 'due process'.
Domestic 'spying'. What was done was not 'domestic spying'. It was intercepting possible enemy communications. A military / national security intelligence operation. Well within the President's authority to conduct without Judicial or legislative oversight.
ME 'now' ablaze in terrorism? It's been ablaze in terrorism for the past 30 years. Thanks for paying attention.
No, your distorted picture of reality does not mean we are brain-washed.

Does the term "neocon" make you feel intelligent?? You talk about brainwashed. That's as brainwashed term as I've ever heard. Aren't any of you capable of thinking on your own?? Why do you refuse to see the other side at all?? I think it's fear that you might actually realize that you're wrong about certain things. I do NOT believe in Republican or Democrat. I think the right person is the one who can do the most for America and its people. If we're in a sorry state in the Middle East now, it's because of Clinton's total lack of foreign policy. Where was he when WTC was attacked the first time?? Just because Bush has stood his ground and not backed down and pulled our troops out doesn't make him weak. We ARE completing our mission in Iraq. We ARE helping the people of Iraq. Maybe you prefer the war be brought to American soil so more can die like in the WTC. The President is NOT solely responsible for the woes of our country. We have a Congress that is very much out for themselves. They just voted in a pay raise for themselves while most of us battle to survive month to month. They get their pay and benefits for life. Do you?? Instead of calling people names and bashing their beliefs, maybe you should get educated and informed so you can deal with the real issues. Maybe, just maybe you're the one that's brainwashed since you can only see one view.

That is actually a pretty easy answer.
They see what goes wrong, they agree with the thinking part of humanity, but they voted for the idiot in chief. If they would discard him they would admit that they voted for an idiot. Now what is a person who voted for an idiot? What does that say about the GOP voter?
Fact is, people cannot admit that they did something wrong. For this the GOP voter would have to have something like gestalt, and that is far and few between.

There are many reasons, but here are two... First, it is better than what the Dems put on the table...a candidate that had no vision from a party with on platform. Second, most Americans are unaffected by all the things you listed. They are too busy going to work trying to make ends meet to worry about issues so far away and that truly do not effect their daily lives.

Most people see him for the monster that he is. But there is absolutely nothing that we can do about it. There is no accountability for government in this country.
So lets propose a toast to Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin and George Bush. May future history books discuss them in the same chapter.
