So I was wondering if anyone knew whether Bed Rest fell under short term disability and then changed to long term disability or if you are sent to bed rest do you just have to do without your salary. Or does this depend on your company or insurance. We just can't possibly live in our house without both of our salaries (Seattle's cost of living is outrageous, our modest home is 400,000.)

It should fall under short term disability. Long term disability probably depends on the insurance company and how long you have worked at your place of employment.

When I was on bed rest, my short term disability kicked in after the first week. Unfortunately, as I was hired too late to be covered by the long term disability, I had to do without it. Check you policy to find out for sure. Both should cover your pregnancy as long as you meet their terms.

Why did you buy a home when you knew that it took both salaries to keep it? What if you or your husband loose your job? It falls under short term and can not be changed to long term, because pregnancy is not concidered permanent- its short term.

Bed Rest is usually short term disablility, unless you go over 3 month as i think they define "short term" as 3 month. You have to check with your current insurance company for its policy. Unless you have disability insurance, you won't get paid.

I'm assuming for pregnancy? I think it's short term...but check it out...I'm in Canada, so we get Employment Insurance for it. (hence short term for us).

You being in the US it could be different. Check your insurance policy.

Good luck with your pregnancy!
