I think the winner will come out of the west. I believe the Oilers took a big step back. The usual suspects Detroit and Vancouver Calgary and Colorado all have a shot although I am not sure that Detroit has the Goaltending with hasek to win as the other teams. My pick to win is the Sharks. They are good up front and are solid between the pipes. They may need an defenseman , but Lombardi is good and should get one. Keep your eyes on the Ducks also.

Some funny posts here.

Calgary has an improved offence, Iggy is absolutely awesome, but the offense overall is still below-average (but not in the basement any more).

Toronto also better, but not a contender.

I'm curious about Nashville, if their goalie didn't get hurt. But still can't win. Oilers had a great year, lost a Dman, but improved in goal (kept Roloson) and improved offence (lost Samsonov, but got Sykora and Lupul). Have lots of experience, but maybe tired. Pick them to win the following year.

So probably Sharks or Anaheim in West. For East, I think Brodeur has one more cup in him. As soon as Dmen improve to fill the two big losses (Stevens and Niedermayer). I think Ottawa still has to be considered since the goalie situation is better and not a distraction, though they lost Chara.

Lets say Anaheim vs Ottawa. Two superstar Dmen, veteran forwards and Dmen, scoring depth, good goalie plus experience for many young forwards = Stanley. Can also still trade Giguere and drafts for more help too.

the Leafs have nothing up front and now they have a really good goalie. all the young players from last year that came up to play when players like Lindros, Allison and O'Neil got injured are not going to be that good. sure they played their hearts out, but you need to understand that they where playing like that to get a spot for the fallowing season. know that players like Steen, Wellwood and Stajan they wont be as strong as they where last year. the only hope that the Leafs have is if Raycroft comes out of the COMA he was in last year.

the Montreal Canadiens have a great chance we have great D-men and have Samsanov and Jonhson and Koivu's eye is looking really good. but if Huet is as dominate as he was last year the Habs are going to be really though to beat and will be one of the top contenders for the Stanley cup.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Maple Leafs doesn't have enough good players to even make the series. The Montreal Canadiens will win this year or at least get to the final, the team have been very well improved!

I think these types of questions are best answered without our favorite teams. I always want the Flyers to win, but as long as Clarkie & Ed keep the Broad Street Bullies on life-support, it'll never happen.

That said, if I were to put money on a team it would be the Canucks. Why?Something tells me they are going to be a surprise. But I have learned never to count out the Devils in any season and the Sharks look poised.

DUCKS!!! With the addition of Pronger, they have 2 of the top 3 Dmen. Their rookies have a year under their belt and if Selanne has half the year he had last year, their offense will rock. BTW ... Teemu Selanne is on a mission. Last season he had to prove he could still play. WOW! Did he ever!!! This year he wants a ring. He's ready to retire and spend time with his boys. He's gonna rock. SISU SORSA!!!!

Honestly I think it'll be the redwings with their recent additions of Hasek, Markov, and Greg Johnson. And we can't forget about the 4 forwards and the re-signings of Lidstrom, Osgood, Cleary, Williams, and Lebda.

The loss of Shanahan and Yzerman seemed as though they were going to hurt the team but as always it looks like they've recovored and rounded out their team very well.

And of course we have to look at the probability of Lidstrom being the captain, now hes gonna take them places (even thought i'd love to see datsyuk as captain).

wat do u think?
