I am a single dad with 2 daughters and I can tell you that the first thing you need to do is to be a bit positive and big yourself up a bit. Bringing up kids is the most fabulous thing and you need to try and enjoy their childhood.
Step 1 Go to the social security and ask for advice, make sure that you are getting and able to recieve all available benefits. Step 2 If you can get a job even part time it will help your self esteem and give you a break from the traumas of bringing up kids
Step 3 is join a group with other people like yourself it will help
I did none of the above because I have a good job and employed an au pair, but I have made sure that since the kids mum died I have always been with them to watch them grow up
I will never be prouder of them or any other acheivement in my life

Get aid, there are plently of state programs.
Also, seek help from family and friends to help with the kid(s), while you get a job.
And to everyone bashing on this person, stop.
My mom was recent widowed, and put in the same situation. She is now raising me (17), my sister (13), and her 2 year old granddaughter. Its a very tuff situation people get put into, and the least you could do is show them some sympathy.
You can't always plan for the unexpected, for all you know this person was left alone because their sweet heart died in a tragic accident. And even if thats not the cause, don't judge them for their mistakes, show sympathy and help them deal with what they're in.

I have no husband, and i have two kids, he doesn't support my children, i work i provide for my children, and keep the house in order, it is hard but you feel 'yes i am doing it on my own' go and see social security they would give you advise, and not only that if you work couple hours a week even Family Tax Credit can help you top up, and you also would get Child Tax Credit. It is hard but sometimes we have to be strong, i don't know why you are saying you are not getting help, there is help out there

I don't know where you live but find and go to the local state agency that assists families in need. They will help you file for child support, find a job, daycare and even living assistance until you are back on your feet. I know it's hard. I was a single mom once, but luckily I had a family who helped me when I was down. It won't happen over night, but it will happen. Just be the best mom you can be for your child and accept help!

get a freakin job you loser...I think McDonalds even pays pretty decent for someone with no experience and no education. work your way up. Who needs a man for these things? You aren't the only person out there who is a single parent. First off you need to quit feeling sorry for yourself...it's not about you. It's about the child that you brought into this world that you need to focus on. WHo cares if you look dumb and the work sucks....Get off your hiney and support your baby.

Maybe you could help watch someone elses kids while they work. Or work and hire someone to watch your kids. Work from home (internet, telemarketing, direct mail, ebay, etc)... just don't be lazy... you have a child to be responsible for.
