I'm not interested in video, and I have a large CD collection at home, but live away at least three nights a week.

Like anything, there's no easy answer to your question. Think about what you want from it. Do you:

Just want to listen to music?
How many albums do you have?
Do you want to watch videos, etc.

For example, if you only have 50 albums for example - don't go and buy 60gb iPod (What do you call "a large CD collection").

iPod do have the market share, but aren't necessarily the best. They're frighteningly easy to use tho.

A lot of MP2 players also have accessories, so spend a bit of time to check those out.

If I were you, go to Tottenham Court Road (If you're in or have easy access to London) and play with a few. Otherwise, any high street will be able to show you a few.

Do your research on this one; and the internet probably isn't the only place that you should look.

I have owned both iPods and other mp3 players and I like the iPods the best. The software Apple provides to manage music: iTunes, is very very good and makes it easy to keep track of your music.

I recommend the iPod Nano in 4gb. It will hold up to 1000 songs, is very small, has a color display and the famous iPod scroll wheel which makes finding your music and changing settings on the ipod a breeze.

Dont get an Ipod, they freeze up all the time. I'd advise you to get either a Creative Zen 20gb or a Sony Walkman 20gb MP3....both are cheaper and more reliable than an Ipod.

Go for a decent MP3 player with a large capacity. I'm not a fan of Ipods.

I have a Creative Zen 20GB USB 2.0 and it holds 10,000 tracks.

Check out the Sony range, great battery life. Players from a half up to 20 Gb. Flash and hard drives.

I would veer away from an iPod. I had one and it went on the blink. My best friend had one and it went on the blink.

Also, you can get 'generic' mp3 players with far longer battery life for around the same price.

I'd definitely shop around.

I recently bought a ministry of sound mp3 player, it was €45 for 256mb, its only small but it does the job, its about the size of my thumb and has a sports clip, sits on the side of your trousers perfectly! There's no battery involved, you charge it up through your pc or laptop, its great (",) x
